Water Bore Drilling Griffith
A household bore in NSW starts with paperwork, not a drill: the NSW Department says you need a water supply work approval to construct a groundwater bore, and a 2016 fact sheet says it must be in hand before any drilling occurs. Describe the bore you want near Griffith and your enquiry goes to one local provider, who inspects the site and quotes in writing.

- Each enquiry goes to one independent provider for the Griffith area, not to a list of firms that all ring you.
- We do not drill bores. The provider inspects, then names the price.
- Every call opens with a notice that it may be recorded.

Before you get a quote
Four things to know first
- The approval comes before the drill The NSW Department says you need a water supply work approval to construct a groundwater bore, including one that takes water under household and stock rights. A 2016 NSW fact sheet says it must be obtained before any drilling occurs.
- Household use needs no water access entitlement Basic landholder rights let owners and occupiers take water for household use and non-intensive stock watering without one. The bore is the case where an approval is needed.
- Bore water is untreated The same 2016 fact sheet says groundwater is untreated and should not be considered safe for human consumption without proper treatment. NSW Health advises testing and treating water used for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene.
- A built bore needs its report Once the bore is constructed, the drilling contractor must submit a Form-A bore completion report. The fact sheet says that is when you can start taking water from it.
Three steps
From enquiry to quote
- Tell us about the bore What the water is for, roughly where the bore would sit, and whether one already exists on the property.
- It is passed on Your enquiry goes to one independent local provider covering the Griffith area. The provider pays for the introduction; you never do.
- A provider inspects and quotes The provider looks at the site and prices the work in writing. The price is theirs to set.
Water Bore Drilling across the Griffith area
Griffith is irrigation country, and the water under it is not the water from a tap. A NSW Office of Water overview of the Murrumbidgee catchment, with pages dated April 2011, says major irrigation districts have developed in the middle of the catchment surrounding Griffith and Leeton, and that the three main regional aquifers of the Lower Murrumbidgee hold water of which much is, in its words, too saline for productive purposes. That is a regional and dated statement and it cannot say what a bore at your address will find, which is why the water safety page starts from testing. This site is for household and stock bores. Water for irrigating an orchard or a crop is a different entitlement and a different provider. The article on shallow water near Bilbul shows how much the ground varies within the district.

Tell us what the bore would water, roughly where on the property it would go, and whether one is there already. A local provider covering Griffith will call you back, inspect and quote in writing. The price is the provider's to set, not ours. Before a quote arrives, the Griffith water bore costs and rules check lists the NSW rules that can apply to a household or stock bore, each with its source.
